Microsoft moves for explorer

 Indianapolis – Microsoft says there is a problem with Explorer that could leave users open to theft of important personal information.    They’ve come up with a solution.
For Microsoft users “this is the Microsoft security bulletin summary, the “out of band” patch they released today.”   With on-line Christmas shoppers clicking away, Microsoft announced a chink in it’s protective armor and issued a security patch for Internet explorer users to install right away. Microsoft likes to schedule it’s security updates, monthly downloads to customers computers. But this time they acted fast. It was an emergency.

Printre cele peste 100 de destinatii pe care ChromeInject.A le supravegheaza se numara banci, precum bankofamerica.com, chase.com, halifax-online.co.uk, wachovia.com, sau sisteme de plati online, ca paypal.com si e-gold.com. Informatiile sustrase de la utilizator sunt ulterior trimise catre o adresa de tip [removed]eex.ru. Atât domeniul, cât si serverul sunt localizate în Rusia – un posibil indiciu al provenientei acestei amenintari electronice.

„Utilizatorii ar trebui sa ia în calcul riscurile pe care le presupune pierderea unor astfel de informatii confidentiale”, a declarat Viorel Canja, seful Laboratorului Antivirus, BitDefender.

Yahoo said that it would limit to 90 days the time it holds some personally identifiable information related to searches to address growing concerns from privacy advocates, policy makers and government regulators.
Yahoo’s new data retention policy is the most restrictive among major search engines in the United States and will most likely put pressure on rivals like Google and Microsoft to shorten the time they keep information about their users.
It comes at a time when some privacy advocates are planning a renewed push for legislation that would regulate the data retention and online advertising practices of Internet companies, which they say has a stronger chance of passing with a new Congress and president in Washington.
Already Representative Edward J. Markey, a Massachusetts Democrat who is chairman of the House Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet, praised Yahoo for setting a new privacy standard.
“I urge other leading online companies to match or beat the commitments announced by Yahoo,” Mr. Markey said in a press release.

Yahoo a anuntat miercuri ca va reduce perioada de stocare a datelor cu continut privat ale utilizatorilor de la 13 luni la 3 luni, miscare care ar putea pune presiune pe rivalii Google si Microsoft pentru decizii similare, scrie PC World.

Google a anuntat in luna septembrie ca va renunta la aceste date dupa 9 luni. Microsoft pastreaza datele pentru o perioada de 18 luni insa a anuntat recent ca va reduce perioada la sase luni daca rivalii vor adopta decizii similare.

A group of Japanese asked on Friday that Google Inc stop providing detailed street-level images of Japanese cities on the Internet, saying they violated privacy rights.

Google’s Street View offers ground-level, 360-degree views of streets in 12 Japanese cities and is also offered for some 50 cities in the United States and certain areas in Europe.  The service allows Web users to drive down a street, in a virtual sense, using their mouse to adjust views of roadside scenery.

“We strongly suspect that what Google has been doing deeply violates a basic right that humans have,” Yasuhiko Tajima, a professor of constitutional law at Sophia University in Tokyo, told Reuters by telephone.   “It is necessary to warn society that an IT giant is openly violating privacy rights, which are important rights that the citizens have, through this service.”

The Campaign Against Surveillance Society, a Japanese civilian group that Tajima heads, wants Google to stop providing its Street View service of Japanese cities and delete all saved images.

nVidia has launched its GeForce 9400M

nVidia has launched its GeForce 9400M “Ion” graphics chipset for Netbooks and small desktop designs, putting the same graphics chip used in the current generation of Apple MacBooks into the fast-growing netbook market.
Netbooks are known for being low-cost, low power and not exactly cutting edge. Most use the Intel Atom processor, a derivative of the x86 processor architecture that is not as speedy as a Core 2 chip.
Up to now, all netbooks from vendors like Acer, Asus, Hewlett-Packard, and Dell have come with Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) integrated graphics chips, which are not ideal for graphics tasks like Blu-ray or high definition video playback or playing games.
Compared to the integrated graphics chipsets that come with Atom-power netbooks, the GeForce 9400 GPU offers up to ten times the graphics performance, plays full-spec 1080p high definition video, supports the full Windows Vista user interface and the upcoming Windows 7, and runs popular 3D PC games.
Yet it requires one less chip in the laptop and has minimal effect on battery life. The addition of the 9400 should add about $50 to the price of a netbook, said Ken Brown, a spokesman for nVidia.
